{"id":76864,"date":"2022-08-26T04:00:03","date_gmt":"2022-08-25T18:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=76864"},"modified":"2022-08-26T04:00:03","modified_gmt":"2022-08-25T18:00:03","slug":"hawks-and-gulls-ready-to-run-it-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/hawks-and-gulls-ready-to-run-it-back\/","title":{"rendered":"Hawks and Gulls ready to run it back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BARWON Heads and Drysdale are counting down the hours until they get to run it back on Saturday in the Bellarine Football League&#8217;s Preliminary Final.<\/p>\n<p>Having already faced each other in the first qualifying final, Drysdale is eager to even the score after the Hawks went down to the Seagulls 96-110.<\/p>\n<p>Hawks captain Mitch McGuire said his side&#8217;s loss in week 1 came with takeaways that can hopefully provide solutions at Grinter Reserve.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s always lessons to be learned during a loss.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ll adjust a few things, we know what we need to work on, which we tried against Modewarre and in training, so we&#8217;ll give it a red-hot crack next time around.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Drysdale had trouble keeping &#8220;a good spread at stoppages&#8221; and were &#8220;a bit slow transitioning from attack to defence&#8221; against Barwon Heads last time out, but the talented group coach Ben Carmichael commands is more than capable of reversing its fortunes in week 3.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This group is pretty special, and we&#8217;ve faced these challenges throughout the year where we&#8217;ve been able to stand up to it,&#8221; McGuire added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This weekend will be no different, of course we&#8217;ll be challenged, but I&#8217;ve got no doubt the boys will stand up again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 281px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/08\/061A9870_88688-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"281\" height=\"422\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Drysdale captain Mitch McGuire said the Hawks have stood up to challenges all season.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The BFL finals have been anything but smooth sailing for Barwon Heads, going down to Torquay last weekend by a whopping 75 points.<\/p>\n<p>Seagulls captain Mitch Herbison said Torquay showed his side the kind of mindset a team needed in a big finals game, crediting Dom Gleeson&#8217;s side with being &#8220;fully focused&#8221; and &#8220;on top of their game&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Leading up to the first qualifying final rematch, Herbison understands Drysdale would want to get off on the right foot.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re expecting Drysdale to come out firing this week,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Last time could&#8217;ve gone either way but, in the end, fortunately it fell our way on the day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our main takeaways from the Torquay game are just making sure we come fully prepared and executing the gameplan that we have on the day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ll be bringing the heat with intensity around the ball and making sure the chances we create for ourselves count.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This Saturday&#8217;s preliminary final is slated for a 2pm start.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BY VINNIE VAN OORSCHOTBOTH Barwon Heads and Dry [&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"btn btn-secondary understrap-read-more-link\" href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/hawks-and-gulls-ready-to-run-it-back\/\">Read More&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":191,"featured_media":76865,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[10],"tags":[],"post_folder":[],"class_list":["post-76864","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sport"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 -
