ANGLESEA resident Max Simpson will shave off his blonde locks for blood cancer research for the third year running, donating all proceeds to the World’s Greatest Shave on his official celebration date on September 10.<\/p>\n

Next weekend, Mr Simpson will help celebrate the 24th year of the Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave, joining more than 2 million Australians who have taken part over the last few decades to make an estimated 37,500 kilograms of hair which has been removed for research.<\/p>\n

The World’s Greatest Shave cause is one close to the 24-year old’s heart, having lost his mother to breast cancer at the age of 10, whilst also having friends and family who have been touched by various forms of cancer across their journey.<\/p>\n

“I did it for the first time when I was about 11 years old as part of school and then got back involved with it a couple of years ago.<\/p>\n

“In 2019 I sporadically shaved my head, and my football coach approached me whose mother was dealing with pancreatic cancer, I remember thinking why didn’t I just do it for charity and to support people like her.<\/p>\n

“That moment ended up setting the tone for the last three years of fundraising and I’ve been lucky enough to do two successful shaves for cancer and raise around $6,000 in the process.<\/p>\n

“Each year I’ve just continued to grow it out and really enjoy doing the shave every year and donating to those who are affected by the disease in one way or another.<\/p>\n

“So far we are at $1,400 and hopefully that figure can continue to raise in the coming week in the lead up to the 10th of September.”<\/p>\n

Mr Simpson said everyone was touched by cancer in different ways and credited the World’s Greatest Shave as an amazing way to give back.<\/p>\n

“It’s a really seamless process to register and to get involved and obviously a great way to support,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The money goes to a broad range of services including not just the patients but their families so they can support their relative the best way possible.<\/p>\n

“It’s really well done and transparent how World’s Greatest Shave use the funds and that communication is strong so you know where the money is going to.”<\/p>\n

Mr Simpson will be one of many people Australia wide who will send a powerful message of hope to the 110,000 Australian families currently facing blood cancer, with all funds providing precious relief to those that need it most.<\/p>\n
