{"id":77329,"date":"2022-09-01T04:00:40","date_gmt":"2022-08-31T18:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=77329"},"modified":"2022-08-31T13:42:32","modified_gmt":"2022-08-31T03:42:32","slug":"surf-coast-fc-nets-new-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/surf-coast-fc-nets-new-home\/","title":{"rendered":"Surf Coast FC nets new home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A FOUR-YEAR project is now complete at Banyul Warri Fields giving Torquay&#8217;s only soccer club new facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Surf Coast Football Club has received the keys back to Grant Pavilion following a $2.1 million extension project that now provides the club with a new social space and elevated tiered seating for all three soccer pitches.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/08\/Torquaysoccerclubpa_26768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Surf Coast FC president Brett King.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Surf Coast FC president Brett King said it has been a long time coming for the club not having a home since September last year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The best feeling was getting to open the building the first couple of times and then seeing different teams coming through,&#8221; King said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Bringing old club photos, honour boards and previous flags back into the pavilion as well as past members is a fantastic achievement for the club given the timeline we had and two years of disruption.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>King said the two &#8220;soft openings&#8221; the club has already hosted have been well-received with good spirits and high numbers.<\/p>\n<p>The Grant Pavilion Extension will be officially opened tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 5pm, with local and state government representatives and club members in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>For the past year, Surf Coast FC had been sharing facilities with its neighbour club Surf Coast Suns.<\/p>\n<p>Shared club changerooms and umpire changerooms were occupied by both clubs, while Surf Coast FC also utilised a shipping container for storage during that time.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/08\/Torquaysoccerclubpa_74061.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The club has held a pair of &#8220;soft openings&#8221; at the pavilion with a grand opening to take place tomorrow afternoon.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;All these things just meant that everything was very disorganised, the space wasn&#8217;t big enough and it was uncomfortable,&#8221; King said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These were just the playing elements; from a social standpoint we had no space to gather.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For a club within a growing area like North Torquay and a region like the Surf Coast, our players come from diverse backgrounds, so the ability to facilitate new friendship groups outside of individual teams was really limited.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a big loss at the time, but it is something we can easily rectify moving forward.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a promising time ahead.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The new extension now provides all precinct users with two new change rooms, two new umpire\/referee rooms, two refurbished umpire\/referee rooms and four accessible toilets.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BY VINNIE VAN OORSCHOTA PROJECT four years in t [&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"btn btn-secondary understrap-read-more-link\" href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/surf-coast-fc-nets-new-home\/\">Read More&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":191,"featured_media":77352,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[],"post_folder":[],"class_list":["post-77329","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 -
