A DAY out having a swing with fellow golfers has ended a 71-year drought for a trio of Lorne Country Club women.<\/p>\n
At the Inverleigh Rose Bowl last month, Bronwyn Halpin, Jenni Miller and Lorne CC Ladies’ captain Chris Angus produced a combined nett score of 220 to beat out Barwon Heads’ 13th Beach by one point for Lorne’s first win at the Bowl.<\/p>\n
“The Inverleigh Rose Bowl has been running for 71 years, so we were pretty excited to get our names on the trophy,” Angus said.<\/p>\n
“This year we took one of our newer players, Bronwyn, and she has only played for less than two years. She came in with a marvelous nett score of 70 that got us over the line.”<\/p>\n
Halpin’s 70 was enough for her to take out the C Grade overall win in the process.<\/p>\n
Angus said the team of three had to wait a while for scores to be compiled, but the wait was certainly worthwhile.<\/p>\n
“We were very surprised when we found out we had won, pretty thrilled but also very excited,” Angus said.<\/p>\n
“It was a really nice moment because we had played at Inverleigh quite a few times and there are sandscrapes out there, which made it even more special because it was something that we were not used to.”<\/p>\n
Lorne Country Club’s Ladies players try to play as often as possible, bouncing around the 26 registered courses in the South West Golf Association.<\/p>\n
However, Angus said Lorne’s golfers were getting excited to host a major tournament in their own backyard later this year.<\/p>\n
“We have our Lorne Open coming up on Friday, November 25th for the ladies, Saturday, November 26th for the men and Sunday, November 27th for mixed,” Angus said.<\/p>\n
“We’d be rapt if we could get as many women as possible down to the event, it should be an awesome day of competition.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
