Philanthropic cycling team, The Lorne Spinners, will lend their support to Surf Coast identity Michael \u201cCamel\u201d Callanan through the Murray to Moyne (M2M) fundraiser in April.
\nThe Lorne Spinners have participated in the (M2M) event for eight years, cycling a whopping 520 kilometres in 24 hours from the Murray River to the Moyne River in Port Fairy while fundraising for a local health project.
\nIn previous years, the group has raised more than $200,000 for the Lorne Community Hospital, but this year they\u2019ve decided to give to another cause close to their hearts and \u201cRide for Camel\u201d at the event, held over April 2 and 3.
\n\u201cCamel is well known for his involvement with Lorne Care, his 30 years with the SES, and he was awarded Surf Coast Citizen of the Year in 2009 \u2013 just to name a few achievements,\u201d Ride for Camel organiser Jenna Robinson said.
\n\u201cUnfortunately, his large heart gave way in 2011 and he has subsequently spent quite some time in hospital.
\n\u201cAlthough he received a heart transplant recently, he has a long road ahead.
\n\u201cHe has been, and continues to be, an inspiration to our small coastal community.\u201d
\nThe key fundraising focus is to assist in Camel\u2019s rehabilitation by securing a pool hoist.
\nThe Lorne Spinners\u2019 fundraising efforts will begin with an auction dinner on March 24.
\nThe dinner will be at The View at Lorne Hotel and include entertainment, a threecourse meal and drinks, served between an auction of items including accommodation vouchers for five-star hotels, local events and handmade crafts.
