For more than 30 years, triple Aria Award-winning Goanna band member Marcia Howard has mesmerised audiences with her stunning voice and skill as a musician and songwriter.
\nAhead of their opening on Friday, the Port Fairy Folk Music Festival has announced Howard is the recipient of the esteemed Maton Artist of the Year Award.
\nThe Artist of the Year award recognises an individual who has made a significant contribution to the folk music community and the wider industry.
\nThe award also celebrates the culture, the roots and the homelands from which music and stories rise.
\nAs Australian rock royalty, Howard certainly makes the grade.
\nShe has made music with the best in the business, from Goanna, to Mary Black, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Hothouse Flowers, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, The Chieftains and back home with Archie Roach.
\nHer solo albums have achieved high praise and she has sung, toured, recorded and performed with many Australian Indigenous artists including Bart Willoughby, Joe Geia, The Pigram Brothers, Archie Roach, Patricia Clarke and Deline Briscoe.
\nMany albums recorded in Australia over the past thirty years feature Howard\u2019s harmony vocals and she is an accomplished singer, pianist, guitarist and vocal director.
\nHoward will be at the Port Fairy Folk Festival this weekend, launching her new EP, Nashville Sessions.
\nThe EP was recorded in Nashville at Beaird\u2019s Music Studio with an ensemble of seasoned instrumentalists, creating a classic Nashville sound spliced with a little bit of Australiana.
\nThe Port Fairy Folk Music Festival is on March 11-14, featuring 100 acts across 18 venues.
