{"id":78956,"date":"2022-09-10T19:16:23","date_gmt":"2022-09-10T09:16:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/its-tiger-time-bannockburn-repeats-as-gdfl-premiers\/"},"modified":"2022-09-10T19:16:23","modified_gmt":"2022-09-10T09:16:23","slug":"its-tiger-time-bannockburn-repeats-as-gdfl-premiers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/its-tiger-time-bannockburn-repeats-as-gdfl-premiers\/","title":{"rendered":"It\u2019s Tiger Time: Bannockburn repeats as GDFL premiers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal elementToProof\">THE FOURTH quarter between Bannockburn and Inverleigh saw a massive 81 points scored, but it was the former side that emerged with the Geelong &amp; District Football League (GDFL) trophy in its grasp.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal elementToProof\">Bannockburn have repeated as premiers of the GDFL, following a 13.9.87 to 12.11.83 win over Golden Plains rivals Inverleigh in a Grand Final classic at St Albans Reserve.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal elementToProof\">Scoring was few and far between for both sides through three quarters, as a full crowd watched on.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_57185\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-57185\" style=\"width: 404px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-57185\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/09\/2H3A9740-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"404\" height=\"269\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-57185\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">After winning the premiership in 2019, Bannockburn has done it again three years later.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Only a point separated the Tigers and Hawks after the first term, before Inverleigh snared a 10-point lead at half time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal elementToProof\">Bannockburn answered in the third, keeping the Hawks goalless in the premiership quarter and leading 49-40 at the final break.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal elementToProof\">However, Inverleigh\u2019s seven goals and Bannockburn\u2019s six in the fourth quarter alone would result in one of the best final terms in GDFL Grand Final history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Despite the persistent efforts of the Hawks, the siren sounded with the Tigers in front by four points, ending the hopes of Inverleigh\u2019s first GDFL senior premiership.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Kieran Fulton, despite battling sickness throughout the week, slotted four goals in the win for Bannockburn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Callum Hetherington had three, while Lincoln Peters and Hayden Spiller each notched up two.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Vice-captain Tristan Battaglia and Ayden Osborne rounded out the Tigers\u2019 scoring.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_57186\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-57186\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-57186\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/09\/2H3A9585-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-57186\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bannockburn&#8217;s Connor Jervies was named man of the match.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal elementToProof\">Player-coach for the Hawks Adam Donohue had a terrific outing in front of goals with five, bolstered by a pair of majors from Dalton Grundell and Jarrod Young.
