CAPE Otway Lightstation has opened to the public following a partial closure over winter to carry out essential works.<\/p>\n

The lightstation team have been working hard behind the scenes throughout the closures and are excited to welcome back visitors just in time for the school holidays.<\/p>\n

The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) took on the lease to operate the tourist attraction from July 1 this year, and has since been running accommodation only while works were completed.<\/p>\n

Throughout the transition to the new lease, GORCAPA has prioritised securing local jobs, and ensuring the lightstation continues to operate as a significant natural, cultural and visitor destination.<\/p>\n

The lightstation, built in 1848 and situated on land now managed by Parks Victoria as part of the Great Otway National Park, is Australia’s mainland’s oldest working lighthouse and has long been a popular Great Ocean Road destination.<\/p>\n

GORCAPA chief executive officer Jodie Sizer said the reopening announcement was exciting and the authority looked forward to all facets of the Lightstation being up and running.<\/p>\n

“We have been eagerly anticipating the reopening of the full Cape Otway Lightstation experience and can’t wait to welcome new and returning visitors this school holidays.”<\/p>\n

The reopened lightstation will now not only offer accommodation for visitors over the school holidays but also give patrons the chance to undertake tours and enjoy food and beverages at The Lightkeepers Caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n

With travel back on the agenda, GORCAPA says it looks forward to welcoming new and returning visitors to make the lightstation a must-see part of their Great Ocean Road adventure.<\/p>\n

Throughout spring, the lightstation will be open to visitors from Friday to Tuesday, 10am-5pm.<\/p>\n
