{"id":79902,"date":"2022-09-26T04:00:26","date_gmt":"2022-09-25T18:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=79902"},"modified":"2022-09-21T08:41:21","modified_gmt":"2022-09-20T22:41:21","slug":"breast-cancer-awareness-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/breast-cancer-awareness-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Breast Cancer Awareness Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OCTOBER is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) will continue to advocate for equal access to the best breast cancer care for the 20,640 women that are diagnosed each year.<\/p>\n<p>Breast Cancer Awareness Month takes place every October with a mission to shine a light on the devastating impact the disease has on thousands of Australians each day.<\/p>\n<p>Breast cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, with nine people losing their lives each day.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_79912\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-79912\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-79912 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/09\/BCNA_PinkSportsDay_5_74397-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1663651142\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-79912\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Breast Cancer Awareness Month supports the 20,640 women who are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to BCNA, the only way to stop deaths from breast cancer is by funding research to improve the overall understanding of how the cancer originates, grows and spreads.<\/p>\n<p>By the community fundraising and organising their own &#8216;pink events&#8217; this October, BCNA can continue to invest in world class research for prevention, detection, and new and improved treatments to provide a better quality of life.<\/p>\n<p>Although the five-year survival rate has increased for breast cancer from 76 per cent to 92 per cent and has been rising since 1994, Breast Cancer Network Australia&#8217;s goal is to reach a total of zero deaths from breast cancer, by targeting the remaining 8 per cent who don&#8217;t live past the survival rate.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_79911\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-79911\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-79911 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/09\/BCNA_PinkLadyEvent_74310-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1663651138\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-79911\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">BCNA are encouraging the community to host their own pink breast cancers event this October to fund life-saving research. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This year alone 20,640 Australians are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer, on average 57 every day,&#8221; CEO of Breast Cancer Network Australia, Kirsten Pilatti said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Funds raised for BCNA during October will help us continue to provide our services and resources free to those diagnosed, their families and friends.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We encourage everyone to host a pink event in October as it&#8217;s a great way to support those in your local community affected by breast cancer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Whether it&#8217;s a Pink Sports Day and sausage sizzle at your sporting club, an Actively Pink fitness challenge with your friends, or a Pink Lady Event morning tea with your workmates \u2013 hosting a community fundraising event is free, simple, and fully supported by BCNA to help you make it a fun and perfectly pink occasion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_79903\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-79903\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-79903\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/09\/BCNA_MiniFieldofWome_74232.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-79903\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The BCNA mini field of Women will be a feature at the Carmen&#8217;s Fun Run.
