THE Surf Coast Longboarders Club is again hosting an event bringing women together to celebrate, compete and have a fun day in the water.<\/p>\n
The Wild Women on Water (WWOW) will be held on Saturday March 3 \u2013 the weekend before International Women\u2019s Day \u2013 at Point Impossible, Torquay.<\/p>\n
The event is open to women of all ages, with a choice of competitive longboard divisions (Under 18, Open and Over 40), a non-competitive expression session and for the first time, a shortboard division. This opportunity is given to every age, level of experience and type of craft.<\/p>\n
This is the 9th year running of WWOW and in the past it has attracted around 50 entrants from the local area as well as interstate visitors.<\/p>\n
Participants can look forward to a Welcome to Country ceremony, followed by yoga on the beach and a massage therapist on hand to limber up participants between events.<\/p>\n
Club member and WWOW participant Penny Andrews said WWOW was a celebration of the most beautiful aspects of women\u2019s surfing: \u201cfriendship, support and laughter while sharing waves\u201d.<\/p>\n
The club receives generous donations from local businesses who love the opportunity to be involved and promote women\u2019s surfing.<\/p>\n
Sponsors this year include Patagonia Torquay, Rip Curl Torquay, Beacon Ecological, Sequence Osteo and Ashtanga Yoga Surf Coast.<\/p>\n
Proceeds from the event will go towards local charity Bethany, providing much-needed support for vulnerable individuals and families.<\/p>\n
