THE BELLARINE’S Music Caf\u00e9 is making the most of its new and bigger home at the Portarlington Golf Club by expanding its programming of live variety shows.<\/p>\n

The Music Caf\u00e9, which was formally located at St Johns Church, will host four acts this weekend at its larger site which can accommodate between 40-80 people.<\/p>\n

“We’re a variety show and the more variety we can get the better, so I’m always looking for good and different music and there’s heaps in Geelong so we’re lucky,” Music Caf\u00e9 co-ordinator Robyn Jenes said.<\/p>\n

Ms Jenes, who was a former leader of the Portarlington Ukulele Kollective (PUK), now dedicates her time to providing a platform for people to come together and hear music, sing, feast, drink, laugh and dance.<\/p>\n

“Dancing is becoming more popular because we’ve got more space,” she said.<\/p>\n

Ms Jenes has lined up local dance teacher and community arts practitioner Wendy Erickson who will be performing her Big Sing and Dance show to get the crowd on their feet and singing along.<\/p>\n

They will be joined by two duo acts, Click’s Claudia and Rick and Kool Jazz’s Dwaine and Tony, as well as Ghanian musician Fred Nii Addo who is known for his singing, dancing, drumming and choreography.<\/p>\n

“What I’m interested in is live community music, finding people doing good things around the place. I like to show locals what’s available, but above all else we just love live music,” Ms Jenes said.<\/p>\n

“Nobody makes any money out of Music Caf\u00e9, all our money goes back into to it to pay for more guests, the room hire and sound system.<\/p>\n

“I’m retired, this is my hobby, it’s a great hobby.”<\/p>\n

The next Music Caf\u00e9 show is on Saturday, October 8 from 6pm – 9pm at the Portarlington Golf Club.<\/p>\n
