SUPPORTERS of refugees\u2019 rights have held another protest in the Surf Coast as part of the #LetThemStay campaign. <\/p>\n
Aireys Inlet Rural Australians for Refugees (RAR) members gathered at the Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch on Friday to call for changes to federal government policies on asylum seekers.
\nThe protest follows a similar one with surfers and Surf Coast RAR members at Bells Beach earlier this month.
\nGary Johnson, from Aireys Inlet RAR, said thousands of Australians had been protesting across the country in them stay support of the campaign.
\n\u201cA High Court ruling enables the federal government to legally transport 267 asylum seekers back to Nauru.
\n\u201cOnly widespread protests have so far prevented this legal but immoral deportation.\u201d
\nHe said if they asylum seekers were returned to Nauru, they would face, \u201caccording to whistleblowing doctors and detention workers, deprivation, a toxic environment and a growing mental health crisis\u201d.
\n\u201cThe large number of protesters at the Memorial Arch passionately demonstrated to the federal government that many residents of Aireys Inlet and district, in the marginal seat of Corangamite, are strongly against these unfortunate people being returned to the awful conditions of Nauru.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
