THE Mother\u2019s Day Classic (MDC) in Torquay is looking for \u201cpassionate and organised\u201d people to pick up the baton and keep the event going this year.
\nThe MDC is held in more than 100 locations across Australia, from capital cities to remote towns and has grown into Australia\u2019s largest breast cancer participants and raising money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
\nMorris said the event was no average fun run.
\n\u201cIt is a powerful day for families and friends to support breast cancer survivors and those who have lost loved ones to the disease.\u201d
\nVolunteers organise the regional events, and Ms Morris said there were plenty of tools and resources available to help locals set up their event.
\n\u201cIt only needs a few determined, motivated people to form a committee and make an enormous difference \u2013 your inspiration is to help cure breast cancer.\u201d
\nOne such organiser is Kim Waltson, a \ue016 was inspired to start an MDC in Lilydale by her mother\u2019s battle with breast cancer and is back again to make the 2016 event even bigger.
\n\u201cMy strongest memory was from the actual day. I\u2019d been distracted trying to set up the event in the rain, and hadn\u2019t noticed participants starting to arrive.
\n\u201cI turned around to see hundreds of people had come out in the pouring rain to take part. It was at the point I realised just how important the Mother\u2019s Day Classic was to the community. All our hard work was worth it.\u201d
