{"id":82604,"date":"2022-10-21T04:00:09","date_gmt":"2022-10-20T17:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=82604"},"modified":"2022-10-18T13:38:04","modified_gmt":"2022-10-18T02:38:04","slug":"geelong-sharks-host-inaugural-come-and-try-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/geelong-sharks-host-inaugural-come-and-try-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Geelong Sharks host inaugural come and try day."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE newly formed Geelong Sharks Rugby League Club held a come and try day at Ervin Reserve on Saturday, as they gear up for their inaugural NRL Victoria season in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday&#8217;s come and try event was the first of many pre-season activities run by Geelong&#8217;s newest rugby club as they look towards building a roster ahead of the Storm Cup NRL Victoria competition, which kicks off in April next year.<\/p>\n<p>The day involved a junior skills workshop with representatives from NRL Victoria, a senior club scratch match of touch football, and a free sausage sizzle.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82612\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82612\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-82612 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/FB_IMG_1665284023734_98888-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1666045884\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82612\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The senior men&#8217;s team had a scratch match during Saturday&#8217;s come and try day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Geelong Sharks Rugby League Club secretary Darren McIntyre said the come and try day was a massive success.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was an amazing turn out with fantastic weather.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The day tuned out be more than expected with many prospective members signing up to play or volunteer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is very exciting to see the great number of folks keen to play and we are extremely optimistic that we will have a very long and successful future at the Sharks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82614\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82614\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-82614 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/10\/IMG_5663_00467-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1666045914\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82614\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The club is optimistic of having plenty of players for its inaugural season.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Senior club pre-season is set to kick off for men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s teams at Ervin Reserve, Newcomb on November 3 at 6pm, while junior teams will begin training on November 5 at 9am.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who is interested in playing or helping out is advised to jump onto the Geelong Sharks Rugby League Club Facebook or Instagram page.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE newly formed Geelong Sharks Rugby League Club held a come and try day at Ervin Reserve on Saturday, as they gear up for their inaugural NRL Victoria season in 2023.
