{"id":84164,"date":"2022-11-03T13:04:11","date_gmt":"2022-11-03T02:04:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/torquay-blasters-to-take-off\/"},"modified":"2022-11-03T13:11:57","modified_gmt":"2022-11-03T02:11:57","slug":"torquay-blasters-to-take-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/torquay-blasters-to-take-off\/","title":{"rendered":"Torquay Blasters to take off"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">THE next generation of cricketers could begin its journey at Torquay\u2019s Spring Creek Reserve later today (Thursday, November 3) as the Torquay Blasters Program kicks off this afternoon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hosted by the Torquay Cricket Club again, the 11-week program will have a Junior Blasters program aimed at children aged between five and seven and a Master Blasters program aimed at children between seven and 10 years old.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBeing engaged in cricket at a younger age provides a great environment for boys and girls to enhance their skills,\u201d program co-ordinator Daniel Emmerson said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s also a great way for parents to involve themselves in the cricket community and down here at Torquay with their kids.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCricket fundamentally is a game we play for fun. Anyone can sign up and if you\u2019re not sure, come down and try.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participants will only need to commit an hour of their week from 5-6pm each Thursday from November 3 to February 23, falling on either side of the school holiday break.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The club is encouraging parents to lend a hand where they can get involved by way of running skills\/game stations on the ground, cooking regular barbecues, as well as setting up and packing up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAs always, we encourage parent engagement, and we need your help,\u201d Mr Emmerson added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPlease be prepared to help throughout the year with the following jobs. All parents are capable of this with no experience necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each session follows a set structure, beginning with a welcome\/warm up (five minutes), various activities and games (30 minutes), a backyard cricket-style game (20 minutes) and five minutes to end the session.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Torquay Blasters program is designed for parents to get involved and spend some quality time with their child learning some simple cricket skills using plastic bats and rubber balls.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participants can register for the program at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.play.cricket.com.au\/cricket-blast\/junior-blasters\">play.cricket.com.au\/cricket-blast\/junior-blasters<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE next generation of cricketers could begin its journey at Torquay\u2019s Spring Creek Reserve later today (Thursday, November 3) as the Torquay Blasters Program kicks off this afternoon.
