ANGLESEA Community House members say a $60,000 election pledge from Labor’s candidate for Polwarth Hutch Hussein “couldn’t have come at a better time” as the organisation seeks to recover losses incurred during the pandemic.<\/p>\n

Home to dozens of community groups, events and childcare, the community house’s treasurer Keith Perkin said the organisation has a deficit of nearly $100,000.<\/p>\n

“Fortunately, resources have been built up over a number of years but we can’t continue to run deficits,” he said.<\/p>\n

Making the pledge on Tuesday (November 8) that’s contingent on both she and the Labor party winning the state election on November 26, Ms Hussein said it would be up to the house as to how it spends the money.<\/p>\n

“We recognise the connection the Anglesea Community House fosters in the community and also the sense of inclusion and opportunity it provides for people to gather there,” she said.<\/p>\n

“And it’s done out of the goodness of your hearts, but you need resources.”<\/p>\n

Ms Hussein said the funding pledge was a result of talks with members of the community who highlighted its importance.<\/p>\n

“Everyone in Anglesea knows and loves Anglesea Community House, they have been serving our community for years. We’re proud to give back to those who have given so much to us.”<\/p>\n

“There are things that are big pies and big-ticket items, but sometimes $60,000 can make a big difference\u2026 we know how far you’ll make that go.<\/p>\n
