“I wanted to make sure the next thing that I did was good for our children’s future, good for the environment, to leave a better impact for the future,” she said.<\/p>\n
“So, everything that’s in the business I have personally selected and curated the range, all of the products come from sustainable or eco-friendly standpoints.”<\/p>\n
“A lot of natural products, eco-friendly materials, products that are well made and will stand the test of time.<\/p>\n
Powell she named the business Huis (pronounced how-z) because it means house, or home, in Dutch.<\/p>\n
“Huis is the way it’s spelt in Dutch. I wanted to use that concept, because that heritage is where mum comes from, and they have a pragmatic approach to life.”<\/p>\n
“Each product having a purpose, and being well made, and standing the test of time.”<\/p>\n
The Huis focus is on timeless, well-made staples with a thoughtful, deliberate choice of to materials selection and the manufacture process, always keeping in mind generations to come.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Huis stocks everything from hardwood furniture to handmade pottery.<\/p>\n “And I select brands that have minimal waste in their packaging, so they use recycled materials,” Powell said.<\/p>\n “Our sofas are all made here in Australia, they use hard wood frames, all quality products that we will have in our homes for a long time.<\/p>\n “It’s about low waste, quality, making sure we leave a better impact on the planet, being really open and transparent about what we do and making people feel like it’s easy to make better purchases.”<\/p>\n She said Huis stocked products that use natural materials are that are safe and renewable, easily regenerative and with a low environmental impact.<\/p>\n Materials like Flax, Linen, Lyocell, Cupro, Cork, Bamboo and organic certified Cotton products, supporting brands that are transparent about their traceability.<\/p>\n “We support local as much as possible, we love Australian brands, we want to make sure that we give as much as possible to local brands to grow their businesses.”<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Huis doesn’t even have a general waste collection, careful to recycle or repurpose anything that comes in the door.<\/p>\n But the humble Huis doesn’t boast about their strides towards sustainability, as they want everyone to feel that small steps matter and celebrate every movement towards change.<\/p>\n “We don’t want to make anyone feel like they have to be 100-per-cent eco-friendly, it’s about taking small steps to head in the right direction, it’s not something we really push but it is really something that’s really important to us.”<\/p>\n “You have to start at some point, and you know you’re looking for some better pieces to furnish your home that you know will stand the test of time.”<\/p>\n Powell said Good Huis Co. believed starting the sustainable journey did not mean cutting back on aesthetics.<\/p>\n “We want things to be really aesthetically beautiful, so it doesn’t have to look recycled, it doesn’t have to be brown, we still love colour and we want out homes to be a beautiful place to live in.<\/p>\n “We subtle mix of colour, we like layering colour, we like not everything in neutral but being able to layer a subtle mix of colour,”<\/p>\n To shop at Good Huis Co., head to goodhuisco.com.au or visit their store at 156 High Street, Belmont.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Good Huis Co. is an effortless blend of aesthetics and sustainability.
