A PAIR of Torquay sisters will soon lose their locks for charity to help children like their older cousin who have battled cancer across Australia.<\/p>\n

Evie Dorman, 9, will cut her hair short after growing it for nearly three years to support Australian cancer charity Challenge \u2013 which raises money for children and their families dealing with the disease.<\/p>\n

Her hair would also be donated as part of the fundraiser, to be made into a wig that young girls undergoing cancer treatment could wear.<\/p>\n

Evie’s campaign follows her cousin Esther’s battle with a brain tumour in 2018, which caused her to lose her hair as she underwent multiple brain surgeries.<\/p>\n

Evie’s fundraising effort has already inspired her older sister Ella, 14, to go one step further and shave her head.<\/p>\n

The sisters hope the gesture will make life easier for other young children diagnosed with cancer and help raise awareness among her school friends about the experiences of other children.<\/p>\n

Evie and Ella’s mum Kelly Dorman said she was “very proud” of the generosity of her daughters.<\/p>\n

“It was all [Evie] wanting to do it and wanting to donate.<\/p>\n

“We’ve been quite open and honest about what was happening with Esther, both the girls were quite mature and knew what was going on.<\/p>\n

“With the girls doing what they’re doing, it shows them that if there’s kids out there who have no hair, let’s try not to stare and instead accept everyone for who they are.<\/p>\n

“It’s putting it out there that there are kids that are going through this, but there’s lots of support out there as well for families, like Challenge.”<\/p>\n

Evie has set a fundraising target of $1000 and was close to two-thirds of the way to her goal earlier this week.<\/p>\n
