LOCALLY filmed hit Netflix TV series Surviving Summer will be paddling out again next year, with the global TV giant announcing a second season of the drama series.<\/p>\n
Produced by Werner Film Productions and ZDF Studios, who is also the international distributor, season two will see the cast return to the beaches of the Great Ocean Road for another eight episodes.<\/p>\n
Surviving Summer follows Summer Torres, a rebellious New York teen, as she’s sent Down Under to live with family friends in a tiny seaside town on Victoria’s South West coast.<\/p>\n
Sky Katz (Raven’s Home) stars in the lead role as Summer, a NY teen rebel expelled from school and exiled to Australia who makes waves among a young surfer’s inner circle – and leaves a mess in her wake.<\/p>\n
Starring alongside her is Brazilian actor Joao Gabriel Marinho (Malhacao), Australia’s Kai Lewins (Wild Boys) and Savannah La Rain (Content). Also in the cast is Lilliana Bowrey, a five-time Queensland junior state surf champion, making her first foray into acting.<\/p>\n
Following the drama’s premiere on Netflix in June this year in Australia, it became the streamer’s ninth most popular TV series in the country.<\/p>\n
Worldwide, it was one of Netflix’s top 10 English speaking shows, a hit in more than 42 countries and achieved more than 20 million views.<\/p>\n
A TikTok sensation as well, #survivingsummer amassed more than 52.4 million views on the platform.<\/p>\n
“We’re absolutely stoked that Surviving Summer made waves both here at home and around the world, and are proud to be bringing this brilliant Aussie teen series back to Netflix for a second season,” Netflix Australia and New Zealand director of content Que Minh Luu said on Monday this week.<\/p>\n
“Bringing the creative team at Werner Productions and our wonderful young cast back together again is a thrill, and we can’t wait to share the next chapter of this quintessentially Australian story with the world.”<\/p>\n
