{"id":85953,"date":"2022-12-02T04:00:44","date_gmt":"2022-12-01T17:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=85953"},"modified":"2022-12-01T09:07:04","modified_gmt":"2022-11-30T22:07:04","slug":"matt-orchard-crowned-australias-top-music-teacher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/matt-orchard-crowned-australias-top-music-teacher\/","title":{"rendered":"Matt Orchard crowned Australia&#8217;s top music teacher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SEASONED rocker and Apollo Bay P-12 college teacher Matt Orchard says he was struck with a rare case of nerves leading up to the ARIA Awards last week, where he was named the winner of the 2022 Music Teacher Award.<\/p>\n<p>A 25-year veteran of the stage, it was not until his award was soon to be announced that he was able to ease his angst.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I used to spew before every gig with nerves, and I haven&#8217;t felt that way for a couple of decades,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But about 15 minutes before our award was given, it suddenly became clear that it was something I had done a lot before, and I suddenly became really calm.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And with that, he was called to the stage to accept his award from the original Blue Wiggle, Anthony Field, and gave a short speech.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_85959\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-85959\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-85959\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/In-Article-2022-11-30T163055.978.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/In-Article-2022-11-30T163055.978.png 600w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/In-Article-2022-11-30T163055.978-300x190.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-85959\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Matt Orchard receiving his ARIA on stage with the Wiggles. Photo: SUPPLIED.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>His next Wiggles encounter, having taken part in a panel the day before chaired by original Red Wiggle Murray Cook, was when the pair &#8220;bailed&#8221; from the ARIA Awards after-party.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Because it was too loud, we sat outside and talked about guitars and vintage clothes for a while, which was yet another Wiggle-y episode.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The whirlwind week was capped off by his return to the coast, where he had a few pre-booked gigs, and his attempt to respond to the 1,200 messages he estimated he received after winning the award.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was lovely that people were so generous, because I couldn&#8217;t have done it without all the support,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When I was younger I wanted to get an ARIA Award playing in a band, for musical deeds that way.
