ANGLESEA Cricket Club members’ batting skills will be honed thanks to a Community Bank Surf Coast’s Anglesea and District Branch donation.<\/p>\n
Players received a $5,000 cheque at Ellimatta Reserve from the bank which will go towards a new bowling machine that will be utilised by players of all ages to enhance batting skills.<\/p>\n
Community Bank Surf Coast’s Community Development Manager Rob Cameron said Anglesea’s rapid growth in recent years increased the club’s eligibility for the donation.<\/p>\n
“The club is fielding four senior men’s teams as well as the senior women’s team this season, along with three junior teams and the Junior Blasters under 10 start out program,” Mr Cameron said.<\/p>\n
“With so much new talent around the club, the coaching staff were looking to improve their capabilities to advance the skills of the fresh crop and decided to purchase a bowling machine.<\/p>\n
“This provides a three way advantage to club coaches, as a batter can have an intense session of one on one practice outside of normal practice time, as it is a one person operation.<\/p>\n
“The bowlers don’t need to over work themselves to provide the repetition batters need in a session and the coaches have the ability to focus on an important part of a batter’s technique, as the machine is very accurate and quickly transferable.”<\/p>\n
Anglesea Cricket Club president Brett Venables said small community-oriented clubs like Anglesea rely entirely on sponsorships and that donations like the bowling machine.<\/p>\n
“It’s a massive contribution from the local bank,” Mr Venables said.<\/p>\n
“Without of the support of them and other local businesses around the town, it would be extremely difficult for us to survive.<\/p>\n
“If we didn’t have the support that we have, then we wouldn’t exist, and that’s one of the great things about Anglesea, it’s how we all rally together to ensure the sporting clubs survive and we in-turn support them as well.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
