MORE than 500 athletes turned out on Tuesday evening\u2019s hot weather to take part in the 2022 Roo Run event, running along the beaches and bush trails of Anglesea.<\/p>\n

Held each year as a fundraiser for the Anglesea Motor Yacht Club, runners and walkers of all levels took on three different course lengths, a 1.5km, 4km and 8km course to test their capabilities in the 37-degree temperatures.<\/p>\n

Event organiser Mick Collins said the event committee were incredibly pleased with the results of the 2022 Roo Run.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were really happy with the entrants and the number of people, particularly with how hot it was on the day,\u201d Collins said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur volunteers were fabulous and we had plenty of them across the course, including the Surf Coast Trail Runners who marshalled the backend of the course.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were also thrilled to have past winners return and it was lovely to have local people of elite level like our 8km winners in Ellie Pashley and Julian Spence support the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was truly terrific and certainly a success!<\/p>\n

Olympic runner Ellie Pashley and established Australian marathon racer Julian Spence reigned supreme in the female and male divisions of the Great Ocean Road Real Estate 8km main event.<\/p>\n

In the Great Ocean Road Real Estate 4km course, U\/17 athletes Charlie Chandler and Jasmine Hume were victorious, while in the the A-Z Plumbing 2XRoo (4km and 8km double) 17-year-old Will Collins put on a clinical performance.<\/p>\n

Post-event, athletes enjoyed an ice-cold drink at Point Roadknight\u2019s Rusty Anchor Bar, which has now opened back up for the summer season.<\/p>\n

At the time of publication, the winner of the Go Ride a Wave Surf n Turf (Roo Run and Rock 2 Ramp Swim combined) was undetermined.<\/p>\n
