{"id":88590,"date":"2023-01-09T04:00:49","date_gmt":"2023-01-08T17:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=88590"},"modified":"2023-01-05T10:12:34","modified_gmt":"2023-01-04T23:12:34","slug":"bell-warren-and-brooks-life-membership-headlines-tbc-presentation-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/bell-warren-and-brooks-life-membership-headlines-tbc-presentation-night\/","title":{"rendered":"Bell-Warren and Brooks life membership headlines TBC presentation night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Torquay Boardriders Club wrapped up 2022 in style, crowning their aggregate champions and two new life members at Jan Juc&#8217;s Bird Rock.<\/p>\n<p>Torquay Boardriders Club (TBC) inducted two long-serving club trailblazers to life-member status at the club&#8217;s 2022 presentation night, with former Championship Tour surfer Troy Brooks and local legend Cahill Bell-Warren joining the list of Torquay royalty.<\/p>\n<p>Current life members cited both Brooks and Bell-Warren&#8217;s long-term commitment and efforts made them worthy nominees for life membership status.<\/p>\n<p>A strong competitor and clubman, Cahill Bell-Warren chased the professional qualifying series around the world for over a decade, however always kept incredibly close ties to his home club.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bell-Warren is currently the only male surfer at TBC to win five open titles and stakes claim to being the longest serving club president (six years) in its 45-year history.<\/p>\n<p>Happily shedding some tears at the presentation, Bell-Warren thanked the club for all it&#8217;s done for him during his career.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_88599\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-88599\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-88599 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/TBR-Presso-171222-75-1024x576.jpg?_t=1672783812\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/TBR-Presso-171222-75-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/TBR-Presso-171222-75-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/TBR-Presso-171222-75-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/TBR-Presso-171222-75-1536x864.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-88599\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bell-Warren was happily in tears upon finding out about his life membership. Photos: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It still doesn&#8217;t feel right to have my name listed alongside my heroes, my role models, this town&#8217;s icons and those who&#8217;ve built the club that has given me so much,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The TBC community has helped shaped me as a person and the life I lead, the least I can do is give my time back to show my gratitude.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve always wanted to do the club proud in and out of the water and am forever grateful for the support network it&#8217;s become for me through life&#8217;s highs but most importantly the inevitable dark lows.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wasn&#8217;t ready for the emotions that took over when I was inducted but feeling safe to cry in front of the club just sums up how amazing this group of people really is.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_88601\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-88601\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-88601 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/TBR-Presso-171222-80-600x380.jpg?_t=1672783884\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-88601\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bell-Warren is the only current male to win five open titles and is the longest serving president in the club&#8217;s history.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fellow inductee Troy Brooks has been an integral part of the club&#8217;s fabric both before and after his move to the Gold Coast to chase the professional circuit.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks was the creator of the Hells Bells invitational event and the Bunjil creator spirit trophy and collected many accolades over his time at TBC.<\/p>\n<p>The local icon became a two-time Open Men&#8217;s champion, five-time single fin champion and reliable team&#8217;s titles power surfer all whilst trying to chase the Qualifying and Championship Tour around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks said &#8216;he was over the moon&#8217; to join the small list of less than 20 club life members.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_88596\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-88596\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-88596\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/1504325_753390878004_54794.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-88596\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Troy Brooks was also announced as a life member, pictured representing Torquay in a Boardriders Battle event.
