{"id":88649,"date":"2023-01-06T04:00:12","date_gmt":"2023-01-05T17:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=88649"},"modified":"2023-01-05T08:54:11","modified_gmt":"2023-01-04T21:54:11","slug":"danger-swim-series-to-return","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/danger-swim-series-to-return\/","title":{"rendered":"Danger Swim Series to return"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HUNDREDS of athletes will converge on the shores of Torquay Front Beach (inside Point Danger) tomorrow morning for the iconic 2023 Danger Ocean Swim Series.<\/p>\n<p>Regarded as one of the largest open water swim events in Australia, the Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) fundraising event will enter its 24th year in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Jan Juc SLSC President Brett Thompson said he was excited to see competitors test their capabilities across the four different courses (500m, 1km, 2.5km and 5km swim).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_88650\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-88650\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-88650\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/IMG_7771_71305.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-88650\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">There is set to be hundreds of swimming caps in the water for Saturday&#8217;s race.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It will be the first time the event has ran since 2020 and we are really excited to have it back,&#8221; Thompson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The event has attracted 1300 competitors in the past and we are hoping for record numbers in 2023<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The weather is going to be great on Saturday and people are encouraged to also enter on the morning of the event if they wish!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Danger 500 and Danger 1000 swim are taking place in the protected bay area of Torquay Front Beach, while the 2.5km and 5km courses will start and finish at Torquay Front Beach but head towards Fisherman&#8217;s Beach.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_88655\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-88655\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-88655 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/IMG_7776_71308-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1672793454\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-88655\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The event will start and finish at Torquay Front Beach (inside Point Danger).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With both the Jim Wall and our race being over the weekend, we expect some past winners and quality swimmers to be around,&#8221; Thompson added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Plenty of work goes into events like this, it&#8217;s a massive effort from our hundreds of volunteers who are doing the water safety and the set up and packing up.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been two years off and we can&#8217;t wait!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Races are set to kick off around 8am.<\/p>\n<p>Entries remain open at <a href=\"http:\/\/raceroster.com\/events\/2023\/62584\/danger-ocean-swims\">raceroster.com\/events\/2023\/62584\/danger-ocean-swims<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HUNDREDS of athletes will converge on the shores of Torquay Front Beach (inside Point Danger) tomorrow morning for the iconic 2023 Danger Ocean Swim Series.
