{"id":89852,"date":"2023-01-25T04:00:13","date_gmt":"2023-01-24T17:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=89852"},"modified":"2023-01-18T16:17:41","modified_gmt":"2023-01-18T05:17:41","slug":"jan-juc-golf-classic-raises-18000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/jan-juc-golf-classic-raises-18000\/","title":{"rendered":"Jan Juc Golf Classic raises $18,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Jan Juc SLSC Muirfield Financial Golf Classic has raised $18,000 to go towards developing the surf club and its programs.<\/p>\n<p>Held on January 5, the 27th edition of the popular golf classic saw 124 participants take part, with 32 teams playing off for bragging rights at the Torquay Golf Club.<\/p>\n<p>Event organiser Jeremy Bond (son of event founder Bill Bond) said he was thrilled with the overall turnout of the event, with both competitors and the sun putting on a clinic.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_89866\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89866\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-89866 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/JJGD230350-600x380.jpg?_t=1674000223\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-89866\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The event was attended by 124 people and had a waiting list.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_89864\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89864\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-89864 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/JJGD230735_31689-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1674000147\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-89864\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The event was founded by Bill Bond in 1997.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This year was really good, we raised close to $20,000, which is amazing,&#8221; Mr Bond said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve been a bit restricted the last few years with fundraising, but this year was great, if we usually get between $15,000 and $20,000, then that&#8217;s a really strong effort. &#8220;For our event to still be running after 27 years is special, there isn&#8217;t many golf events like that still going. &#8220;Every year we always have a waiting list to play, so it&#8217;s pretty popular.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everyone was very generous on the day with their time, product and their funds.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_89863\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89863\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-89863 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/JJGD230021_31691-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1674000143\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-89863\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Muirfield Finanical Services were the naming rights sponsor on the day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bond said the event could not have happened without the amazing work of local sponsors including the naming rights sponsor Muirfield Financial Services and Golf Imports who donated many of the prizes on the day.<\/p>\n<p>Off the golf course, attendees were also treated to a guest speaking performance by Olympic swimmer Peter Doak.<\/p>\n<p>Led by event royalty in Mel Freake, the team of Josh, Michael, Cameron and Mel Freake took out the overall golfing title on the day.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_89865\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89865\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-89865 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/JJGD2307311_31615-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1674000152\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-89865\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mel, Josh, Michael and Cameron Freake were victorious on the day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Finishing in last place and winning the annual &#8220;NAGA&#8221;
