THE achievements and contributions of young people will be recognised in the 2018 Surf Coast Youth Awards, and nominations are now open.<\/p>\n
The annual awards are a celebration of young people who live, work, study or recreate in the Surf Coast.<\/p>\n
People can nominate across five categories \u2013 Leadership, Community, Music, Arts and Sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Surf Coast is packed with young people who are doing great things in our community,\u201d Cr Martin Duke said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s important that we acknowledge their outstanding contributions and celebrate their achievements, with the youth awards a perfect opportunity to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n
People aged between 12 and 25 can be nominated for an award.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast year the quality of nominations was exceptional, and we expect the same this year,\u201d Cr Duke said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe awards showcase how passionate and dedicated our youth are, and how they are setting an example for both young and old in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 2017 joint Community winner Dan Smith went on to receive the Young Citizen of the Year at the 2018 Australia Day Awards.<\/p>\n
He was acknowledged for his service to Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club, Bellbrae CFA and Torquay Marine Rescue Service.<\/p>\n
Nominations for the 2018 Surf Coast Youth Awards close on April 16 at 9am.<\/p>\n

Winners will be announced at the 2018 Surf Coast Youth Awards, to be held in the shire\u2019s council chambers on April 21 from 4pm.<\/p>\n
