THE Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) have wrapped up a month-long safety campaign that spread the word about cliff safety.<\/p>\n

During January, GORCAPA put up fencing, warning signs and completed site visits along the Surf Coast to remind people to remain safe and stay vigilant around cliffs due to cliff collapses.<\/p>\n

GORCAPA said there had been “significant” cliff collapses in a six-week period at locations including Demons Bluff, Jan Juc, Jarosite and west of the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club.<\/p>\n

The authority said they were pleased during January there was no cliff collapses and that their campaign had reached 72,171 people and generated 5423 clicks through to the Cliff Safety page on their website.<\/p>\n

“We’ve been really pleased to see how well our month-long campaign has been received by visitors and the local community and we will continue to build on this important message to the public,” GORCAPA chief Jodie Sizer said.<\/p>\n

“We expected the number of visitors to the Surf Coast this summer to be well up on recent years, so it’s important that we are doing all we can to remind people of the risks posed by unstable cliffs.<\/p>\n

“Cliffs between Torquay and Aireys Inlet are more susceptible to collapse than other coastal areas and we will continue to remind beachgoers to remain vigilant and follow the signs – not just during Cliff Safety Month, but all the time.”<\/p>\n
