A TEMPORARY eastern realignment of the Surf Coast Highway in April will enable the road to stay open during construction of the overhead rail bridge that will replace the level crossing at Grovedale.<\/p>\n

Electronic signs are up beside the road warning drivers to prepare for delays as construction preparations for the bridge progress in coming months and the existing rail line is eventually removed.<\/p>\n

“While we work to realign the highway, some speed restrictions will be required so the bridge piers can be built safely, and we appreciate the community’s patience while we deliver this critical work,” Regional Rail Revival director Mark Havryluk said.<\/p>\n

A single lane closure is also being established to facilitate work crews that are operating from a construction compound south of the rail line and east of the road.<\/p>\n

Preparation works for the new rail line over the Surf Coast Highway are well advanced.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Road users are asked to be aware of machinery, heavy vehicles, and workers in the area, and to follow all safety signage and traffic management in place.<\/p>\n

The re-orientation of line to the south moves trains away from homes. Once the elevated rail bridge is complete, it will straighten the length of track in the area, improving how trains run through there.<\/p>\n

Connectivity in the area for cyclists and pedestrians will also improve as green space is opened up and pathways are established beside the track through to Waurn Ponds station and surrounding area.<\/p>\n

The removal of the level crossing will be a time-saver for 29,000 vehicles that travel through the area each day and must negotiate with the boom gates down for 22 per cent of the morning peak and 15 per cent of the evening peak.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
