THE toilet block at Bird Rock in Jan Juc is slated to be replaced, and the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) is calling for feedback on the proposed design of the new facility.<\/p>\n

According to GORCAPA, the existing facility – just to the south of the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Princes Terrace – is a dated and medium-use facility that services the nearby Jan Juc Village, the Surf Coast Walk, beachgoers and tourists.<\/p>\n

The works would include a complete rebuild of the Bird Rock toilet block to create two universal, all-abilities accessible cubicles with safety improvements including a more open design, maximising passive surveillance.<\/p>\n

Sustainable design features include solar lighting, sustainably sourced timber cladding, in keeping with the aesthetic of the adjoining heathland and Moonah woodlands.<\/p>\n

The works have been identified in the draft Point Impossible to Jan Juc Foreshore Masterplan, which states the use of the amenity block at Bird Rock should be monitored and reviewed the use of the amenity block at Bird Rock and be “decommissioned or upgraded as appropriate”, and incorporate best practice sustainable design and initiatives such as solar, composting capabilities and water capture and re-use.<\/p>\n

The masterplan also states GORCAPA aims to maintain public facilities on its land in good order so they can be used by the community and visitors now and for generations to come.<\/p>\n

This toilet block upgrade is part of the $18.197 million Great Ocean Road Visitor Experience Uplift grant to deliver improvements to the visitor experience along the famous tourist attraction.<\/p>\n
