{"id":93354,"date":"2023-02-16T04:00:57","date_gmt":"2023-02-15T17:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=93354"},"modified":"2023-02-16T08:58:01","modified_gmt":"2023-02-15T21:58:01","slug":"commerce-torquay-welcomes-businesses-back-in-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/commerce-torquay-welcomes-businesses-back-in-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Commerce Torquay welcomes businesses back in 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COMMERCE Torquay has welcomed the town&#8217;s traders back at its first event of 2023.<\/p>\n<p>More than 60 representatives from local businesses gathered for breakfast and networking at The Sands, presented by the town&#8217;s chamber of commerce.<\/p>\n<p>The Sands sales and marketing manager Annie Glasson gave an update on the renovated facilities at the hotel and golf course, which lies in the heart of The Sands estate.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_93359\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-93359\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-93359 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/02\/IMG_9822_13104-600x380.jpg?_t=1676422609\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-93359\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Olivia Nicholls (Infoxchange), Hugh Degaris (Kieser Torquay) and Bob Tyler (Torquay RSL).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re really excited to move forward in the right direction in regards to events, conferencing and golf,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Kirsten Grant, one of the owners of The Sands, also spoke to the crowd.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been a long journey for us and a challenge to get the place up and running,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think we&#8217;ve now got ourselves a really great team of staff here &#8211; we had no staff when we opened, so we very much built the team from scratch.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_93357\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-93357\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-93357 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/02\/IMG_9786_01997-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1676422446\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-93357\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jess Nowson (Flipswitch Media), Jeff Crow (Commerce Torquay president) and Andrew Ferrie (Gruff Design).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Commerce Torquay president Jeff Crow said the choice of venue was deliberate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think it was really important for us to bring the first breakfast here to The Sands because a lot of people haven&#8217;t been here since the renovations and the new owners.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said businesses coming together as a community was the most important part of Commerce Torquay&#8217;s ongoing series of events.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Over the past few years, we&#8217;ve become a lot more insular in ourselves and in our businesses.
