PROBUS members in Torquay have celebrated the good work of their club over the past decade.
\nThe club of male and female members \u2013 now known as the Combined Probus Club of Torquay Surf Coast Inc \u2013 marked its 10th anniversary at its annual general meeting earlier this month.
\nMore than 90 members came to the celebration, at which 10th and outgoing president Tess Dicker handed over the collar of office to incoming president Graeme Perks \u2013 and 75 members enjoyed a lunch at the Lions Village Centre.
\nThe club takes its name from a combination of the words \u201cprofessional\u201d and \u201cbusiness\u201d.
\nProbus member David Cheatley said membership was not restricted to these two groups and included members from all occupations, with the only requirement that members were retired or semiretired.
\n\u201cThe primary purpose of Probus is to provide meetings and fellowship for its members, who value opportunities to meet with others that share similar interests, enjoy hearing addresses by guest speakers on topical subjects and visiting places and organisations of specific appeal to members.\u201d
\nHe said Probus clubs were non-political and nonsectarian.
\n\u201cThe main function is for all to enjoy a club centred around fun, fellowship and friendship.\u201d
