{"id":96167,"date":"2023-03-16T04:00:58","date_gmt":"2023-03-15T17:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/one-to-remember-queenscliff-arts-prize-praised\/"},"modified":"2023-03-16T04:00:58","modified_gmt":"2023-03-15T17:00:58","slug":"one-to-remember-queenscliff-arts-prize-praised","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/one-to-remember-queenscliff-arts-prize-praised\/","title":{"rendered":"One to Remember: Queenscliff Arts Prize praised"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>QUEENSCLIFF Arts Prize curator Chris MacLeod is lauding the community far and wide for their involvement in making the Australia&#8217;s biggest outdoor art exhibition one to remember.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, winners were announced across 13 divisions for the local prize, including the overall winner title which was handed to Heathcote contemporary artist Irene Majer for her \u2018Boulders Three\u2019 artwork.<\/p>\n<p>MacLeod said he was incredibly proud the prize attracted a large selection of entries in its second year of existence, including some from as far and wide as Weipa in Far North Queensland and Port Pirie in South Australia.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66217\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66217\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-66217 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/03\/PeterPorteusRTWhale-_22531-1-640x320.jpg?_t=1678769967\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"320\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66217\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">People Choice Award winner Peter Porteous for &#8216;Ascension&#8217;.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe event saw over 230 works exhibited along the handrails of the historic Queenscliff Pier where they enjoyed the ever-changing backdrop of Port Phillip Bay,\u201d MacLeod said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year has been fantastic\u2026 the entries have more than doubled from last year and I\u2019d say it was incredibly successful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe feedback that I\u2019ve been getting almost daily from the artists has been great\u2026 a 92-year-old from Queenscliff even told me that it was her favourite event to hit the Borough ever.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was very charming to be told that\u2026 it\u2019s only in its second year.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66219\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66219\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-66219\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/03\/RodneyNicholsonRTLig_22538-1-768x1024.jpg?_t=1678770079\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"533\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66219\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Borough of Queenscliffe Photography Award, Rock Pool by Rodney Nicholson.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mr MacLeod said all entries were judged online by eight experienced artists from diverse artistic backgrounds across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Each image was judged out of 100 total points, with the winning piece &#8211; Irene Majer\u2019s &#8216;Boulders Three\u2019 &#8211; given 712 points out of a possible 800.<\/p>\n<p>Judges drew on the criteria of creativity, imagination and originality for distinguishing the winning pieces.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66221\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66221\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-66221 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/03\/LaurenDanger12-Apost_22544-1-1004x1024.jpg?_t=1678770149\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"653\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66221\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lauren Danger&#8217;s &#8217;12 Apostles No.3&#8242; was the winner of the Seascape Award.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MacLeod said the goal for the 2023 prize will be to garner more support from local artists and that the \u201cdiversity of the work grows further\u2026 and the prestige\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe art sits so comfortable and unintrusively on the pier\u2026 it\u2019s a terrific event and the people that participate in it are really pleased to exhibit their work in what is a great environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For full divisional results, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.queenscliffartprize.com.au\/\"><strong>www.queenscliffartprize.com.au\/<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QUEENSCLIFF Arts Prize curator Chris MacLeod is lauding the community far and wide for their involvement in making the Australia&#8217;s biggest outdoor art exhibition one to remember.
