it really warms my heart that we are in such wonderful hands with the young people we have in our community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nash and the Surf Coast Secondary College team expressed that everyone is touched by cancer in many different ways and cited that as a contributing factor to the success of the fundraiser.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s definitely something that has touched the four of us\u2026 when we brainstormed it\u2026 everyone knew someone that had been diagnosed or affected by cancer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It worked out that this cause was something that could benefit the whole community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_96959\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-96959\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-96959 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/IMG_2715_64586-2-600x380.jpg?_t=1679454094\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-96959\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Year 7 students wore tutus and red socks for their shift of the Relay for Life.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_96954\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-96954\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-96954 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/IMG_2751_64658-2-600x380.jpg?_t=1679454026\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-96954\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cox and Cotter kicking off the first lap of Relay for Life on Friday night.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Year 10 students hope to mentor and inspire younger kids to do what they have done in the future, suggesting it could be something that could be passed down to students.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a really great project to make us learn how to work in teams, how to work with the community and how to branch out and sound more professional overall.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To hand this onto some more Year 9 or Year 8 students would be beneficial for the community and the school.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Year 10 student team thanks the Liuzzi family ($5,000 donation) Torquay Community Enterprise, Quiksilver, Rip Curl, Surf Coast Times, MCG Signs, McCartney Estate, Torquay Lions Club and the Rotary Club of Torquay for their support.<\/p>\n<p>They also extend their gratitude to teacher Georgina Sheens, Peter Raidme and principal Erin Wright for their commitment to assisting with the cause.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FOUR Surf Coast Secondary College students have led the charge in raising more than $16,000 for the Cancer Council through a community Relay for Life fundraiser.
