{"id":97557,"date":"2023-04-05T04:00:31","date_gmt":"2023-04-04T18:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=97557"},"modified":"2023-03-30T10:00:03","modified_gmt":"2023-03-29T23:00:03","slug":"fundraiser-to-jet-set-local-band-to-america","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/fundraiser-to-jet-set-local-band-to-america\/","title":{"rendered":"Fundraiser to jet set local band to America"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Torquay Bowls Club is getting behind one of their very own musicians in the hope of helping her and her band reach superstardom in America.<\/p>\n<p>Local band Amadeus Wolf have been offered a possible record deal from Capitol Records in America, however have been balancing the exciting announcement with their lead singer Lisa Dowling battling cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Having depleted most of her savings due to ongoing medical costs, the Torquay Bowls Club, where she plays often, is running a host of artwork and beer raffles to help her and the band get over to the states to chase their dreams.<\/p>\n<p>The official raffle will be drawn at 5pm on Easter Sunday (April 9) and will feature artwork Sharryn Jenkinson and Julia Larrson as well as kegs of beer from Carlton Draught and Sou\u2019West Brewery.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_97563\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-97563\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-97563 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/IMG_2830_83648-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1680056165\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-97563\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Local artist Sharryn Jenkinson and Lisa Dowling alongside one of Mrs Jenkinson&#8217;s prints.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Torquay Bowls Club Manager Andrew Dodson said that there\u2019s nothing like supporting locals in their bid to reach their goals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we started up music on the deck at the bowls club after COVID, Amadeus Wolf were one of the first bands to ever play,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were really good and have a great following\u2026 thereafter Lisa ended up working for me in the kitchen during the week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s had a few health issues and we\u2019ve supported her through that\u2026 she\u2019s a staff member and now a great friend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a really strong believer in supporting local\u2026 if I can support a local band in getting overseas and securing a record contract, then I\u2019ll do it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf any of my local bands had that opportunity, I\u2019d do everything to help them get there\u2026 you\u2019ve got to support local.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Dowling said she is incredibly thankful for the Torquay Bowls Club\u2019s support to assist the band in getting to America.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a huge help and it\u2019s so nice of Andrew and Michelle to put this on for us,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been pretty hard because of my hospital bills, medical bills and operations\u2026 it\u2019s ongoing and never stops\u2026 these guys stepping up to help is absolutely huge!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would be amazing to get that record deal\u2026.
