{"id":97932,"date":"2023-03-30T10:15:48","date_gmt":"2023-03-29T23:15:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/pies-frogs-dragons-and-eagles-claim-gca-flags\/"},"modified":"2023-03-30T10:28:11","modified_gmt":"2023-03-29T23:28:11","slug":"pies-frogs-dragons-and-eagles-claim-gca-flags","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/sport\/pies-frogs-dragons-and-eagles-claim-gca-flags\/","title":{"rendered":"Pies, Frogs, Dragons and Eagles claim GCA flags"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Geelong Cricket Association season officially came to a close over the weekend with all First XI Grand Finals taking centre stage across the region.<\/p>\n<p>At Queens Park, a familiar matchup decide the region&#8217;s premier cricket league as North Geelong and East Belmont met for a third-straight year.<\/p>\n<p>However, it was a similiar result by the end of play as the Lions failed to match the Magpies&#8217; 5\/211, going all out for 180 in just over 47 overs.<\/p>\n<p>The win was North Geelong&#8217;s fourth-straight GCA1 flag, and the third consecutive premiership win over East Belmont.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Fergusson led all run-getters for North Geelong with 48 not out, while openers Ned Cooper and Sam Hall bolstered the attack with 37 and 35.<\/p>\n<p>In Leopold, Murgheboluc capped off its dream finals run with a win in the GCA2 Grand Final over favourites Torquay.<\/p>\n<p>Struggling with the bat, Torquay was bowled out for just 108 by the Frogs, typified by opener Tommy Henderson&#8217;s early dismissal after just four balls.<\/p>\n<p>Murgheboluc captain Luke Webb led the charge to the win, stringing together 35 not out, boosted by Carl Daffy&#8217;s 25 and Lewy Hyland&#8217;s 21.<\/p>\n<p>The Frogs (5\/112) would ultimately surpass Torquay&#8217;s run total in just under 28 overs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 570px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/03\/B07K0060-JasonGrozd_02643.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"570\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jason Grozdanovski, Mitchell Humm and Lewy Hyland celebrate their GCA2 win over Torquay.
