{"id":97969,"date":"2023-03-30T11:09:47","date_gmt":"2023-03-30T00:09:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=97969"},"modified":"2023-03-30T11:09:47","modified_gmt":"2023-03-30T00:09:47","slug":"rivers-gift-dials-in-at-annual-golf-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/rivers-gift-dials-in-at-annual-golf-day\/","title":{"rendered":"River&#8217;s Gift dials in at annual golf day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VICTORIA&#8217;S leading charity for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), led by parents Karl Waddell and Alex Hamilton, is celebrating another successful River&#8217;s Gift Golf Day, raising tens of thousands in funds at The Sands Torquay last Friday.<\/p>\n<p>River&#8217;s Gift operations manager and father of River, Mr Waddell, confirmed the annual golf day raised approximately $70,000 in its eighth year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As I was driving down Horseshoe Bend Road in the morning on the way to the event this year, I could feel a presence, I felt like River was there assuring me that the day would be okay,&#8221; Mr Waddell said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve put a lot of effort into this year&#8217;s event, The Sands have again been gracious hosts, and we couldn&#8217;t have asked for a better day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 569px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/IMG_7368_67919.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"569\" height=\"379\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">River&#8217;s Gift operations manager Karl Waddell.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>North Torquay has an emotional effect on Mr Waddell and Ms Hamilton, as it was where they lost River, their first child who slipped away to SIDS at four months of age in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The area that The Sands is in is just so significant to us. We lived very close to this golf course just up on Island Drive when we lost our little man,&#8221; Mr Waddell added.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 552px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/IMG_7394_26736.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"552\" height=\"367\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cameron Schwab was the special guest speaker on the day.
