Families are invited to apply for a place this year at kindergartens run by the Surf Coast Shire kindergarten for 2024, with enrolments opening earlier this week.<\/p>\n

The three-year-old and four-year-old programs are free thanks to funding from the Victorian government.<\/p>\n

The shire-operated kindergartens are Anglesea Kindergarten, Helen M Kininmonth Pre-School Winchelsea, Jan Juc Pre-School, Kurrambee Myaring Kindergarten in Torquay, Lorne Kindergarten and Torquay Kindergarten.<\/p>\n

Kurrambee Myaring Kindergarten\u2019s Anni O\u2019Brien teaches three-year-old and four-year-old programs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are so many benefits for a child to attend three-year-old kinder,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s their first start in developing a love of learning, which they\u2019ll carry with them for life. It also supports them to be able to build connections and to be okay saying goodbye to their families.\u201d<\/p>\n

Four-year-old programs offer 15 hours across different session models, including bush kinder.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll programs are based around the children\u2019s interests, as this is how they learn best: with experiences that are of interest to them,\u201d Ms O’Brien, who has a kindergarten career spanning 23 years, said\/.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are able to support their early social development skills and ensure that these are well developed before they head off to school.<\/p>\n

\u201cKinder also supports children to be able to follow routines and directions from other adults, and we are able to work alongside them to develop other important skills that they need before they start school. It all happens in a fun and interactive way.\u201d<\/p>\n
