Photo: BEATRIZ RYDER\/ WORLD SURF LEAGUE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Calling it the highlight of his professional careeer, Huxtable said he couldn&#8217;t have done it without the local support.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was just taking it one step at a time and embracing everything that came with having the privilege of being in the event,<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The support from the community and family and friends was just huge &#8211; having them all come down and send me messages certainly gave me a bit of confidence.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To get through that first round against Kelly was just amazing and then I had the big task of Jack Robinson\u2026 I just went out there with nothing to lose and just wanted to go as hard as I could.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Most people would have thought Jack would have won pretty easily in that second round, but I just wanted to leave nothing out there, luckily those sections were there and I ended up beating him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_100016\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-100016\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-100016 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/04\/Crowd__Bells23__5518_86323-1-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1681868449\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-100016\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Huxtable&#8217;s friends and family were right behind him every step of the way. Photo: ED SLOANE\/ WORLD SURF LEAGUE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Going into this year&#8217;s Pro, Huxtable said he felt more prepared and mature than ever before, citing his personal and professional growth since his Championship Tour debut as a wildcard at Bells when he was just 16 years old.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I felt just being a fair bit older and bigger helped with my confidence in myself and my surfing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To also some more heats under my belt in competition was another big advantage, which I took a lot of confidence out of.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Obviously winning the Trials at pretty rough and rogue Bells developed a bit of that confidence too, but it all settled down pretty quick and I had to reset for the main event\u2026 it was just a full rollercoaster of emotions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ultimately to just get another opportunity to surf in the event was just unbelievable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_100015\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-100015\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-100015 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/04\/XavierHuxtable__23Be_86363-1-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1681868434\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-100015\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Huxtable getting a high five from close friend Tully Wylie after beating Jack Robinson at Bells.
