TWO leading lights in the Scottish contemporary folk music scene will perform a not-to-be-missed concert at Blackwood’s St Martin’s Chapel on Thursday 3 April.

Fiddle player Chris Stout and harpist Catriona McKay, who won Best Duo at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2018, will visit Blackwood ahead of shows at The Sydney Opera House, the National Folk Festival in Canberra and CresFest.

McKay was remarkably given the honour of performing at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral service at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh in September 2022.

The concert will feature their recent masterpiece, Glenshee, described as “richly evocative music capturing the iconic Scottish Glen steeped in history.”

Local traditional Scots singer and concert organiser Fiona Ross said it is “really special” to have the chance to see such outstanding musicians in Blackwood.

“They’re one of the foremost duos in Scotland at the moment – they’re leaders in their field and what they do, taking Scottish traditional music in different directions,” she said.

“It’s a lovely opportunity to see them in a small venue and Blackwood audiences are always so appreciative.

“We just love the fact that these wonderful musicians do want to come and play in Blackwood, so everybody makes their appreciation known.

“We always create a really warm, welcoming atmosphere for whoever does (visit).”
