Operatic sounds to fill Kryal
A NIGHT at the opera courtesy of the Ballarat Italian Association will soon be held at Kryal Castle.
Singers Cosimo Ciccone and Rada Tochalna, performing as duo Voci Classiche, will take to the venue’s Abbey Tavern next month for an evening of opera classics.
Ciccone said the event will bring the performance style to the community without breaking the bank for them.
“It’ll be a bit of everything,” he said. “There’ll be some opera like Nessun dorma, there’ll be some Andrea Bocelli, all the popular arias, songs, and musical theatre like Phantom of the Opera.
“It’s being offered very cheaply for opera. To go to the opera and listen to the highlights, people would normally have to pay a fortune.
“It’s very exciting for Ballarat and grateful for the organisers to put this event on.”
A light supper will be provided during the show’s interval while the dress code for attendees will be semi-formal.
BIA vice-president Yvette Sarra said Kryal Castle will be a novel location for the performance.
“It’s good to spread business across Ballarat,” she said. “Sometimes our touristy locations can be used for other things for our community like this concert.
“It’s something a little bit different and opera’s in a bit of an old-worldly style which suits the nice, warm tavern setting.
“There’ll be a little bit of time to connect and mingle as well during the interval which will be great too for the community.”
Voci Classiche previously performed in Ballarat through the Ballarat Italian Association with a gig at Hydrant Food Hall in 2022.
Opera at the Castle will take place from 3pm to 5pm on Sunday 14 July.
Tickets are $10 for BIA members and $30 for non-members while children under 14 attend free. Book at bit.ly/3XBFbPM.
