MOORABOOL Light Orchestra will join forces with guest conductor Reuben Morgan and young saxophonist William Hinde for Saxophone Seasons with the MLO.
The concert tomorrow week will be an evening of music spanning Mozart to modern jazz.
Born and raised in Ballarat, Morgan has trained in classical singing, violin and ballet, apart from conducting, while multi-instrumentalist Hinde, also from Ballarat, is a flautist and clarinet player to boot. As MLO committee member and lead trumpeter David Gaskell explained, the ensemble is made up of a variety of Moorabool Shire locals from different walks of life who come together for concentrated rehearsals ahead of each scheduled performance.
“From school age students right up to retired people, professional musicians, teachers – people who just like playing music align with our group, but we don’t necessarily (practice) every single week,” he said.
“We tend to come in for seven rehearsals, do a gig, have a break, then come back for another seven rehearsals before the next gig.
“It’s worked for us so far.”
Gaskell also took the opportunity to extend an invite to fellow Moorabool musicians to consider joining the orchestra.
“If you have a willingness to have a go, if you’re intermediate level at your instrument or above, you’ll definitely fit in,” he said.
Musicians interested can contact the MLO via the contact form on its website.
Saxophone Seasons with the MLO takes place on Saturday 14 June at Bacchus Marsh Public Hall from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
Tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite.
