Treasures to abound at mega Blackwood garage sale

A ROLLING bunch of households will set out all their unneeded wares between 8am and 1pm on Saturday 8 March as part of the seventh Blackwood Community Garage Sale, raising money for the town’s locals-operated St Martin’s Chapel venue.
Visitors on the day will be able to buy a map with all participating locations numbered on it for $5 and go from there.
As event organiser Jinny Coyle explained, the concept works because the township of Blackwood is only about five kilometres “from one end to the other”.
“It’s split down the middle by the main road from the freeway to Trentham,” she said.
“We don’t really have mail delivery and we don’t have letterboxes and all that sort of thing, so the maps really help (people) to get around.
“The storeholders are (also) more relaxed because they’re not having to lug stuff around to car boot sales, and it’s so much more fun than a market because you’re going from house to house.”

“It’s an incredibly busy day and each year it gets bigger,” she said.
“It’s one of the last opportunities that our community has before we go into hibernation for winter, when we all go and hide in front of our fires.
“I promise it will be worth it.”
