Almost 600 new foundation students commenced schooling this year, among these were three sets of twins at Myrniong Primary school.
A whopping 580 students started school in 2020 across the 17 schools in the Moorabool Shire.
Bacchus Marsh Primary school sat in first place with 123 preps starting this year, followed closely by 104 students at Bacchus Marsh Grammar.
Darley and Pentland Primary were also among the schools with high student enrolment, sitting at 79 and 66 respectively.
Of the 17 schools across the shire, Bungaree, Gordon St Pat’s, Mt. Egerton, Dunnstown St. Brendan’s and Clarke’s Hill were the only schools with less than 10 students that started this year.
Moorabool Shire Mayor Cr David Edwards told the Moorabool News that “whilst significant growth is not unique to Moorabool, the reality is the type of growth is.”
“Moorabool is growing rapidly with retirees, young families and first homeowners and this is unique because we are growing in all demographics, that means the pressure is on for more of everything,”
“Extra childcare, maternity health, schools, retirement villages, aged care services, recreation and so on,” Cr Edwards said.
“Our local State Government members are on board and have been working hard to attract funding so hopefully in this year’s state and federal budgets we will see results.”
