A body of artwork on display
By Jane Gardner
There’s a bit of excitement happening in the arts world in Ballan, and it seems to be gaining momentum. Moorabool resident (and arts entrepreneur) Mike Bradley has been hard at work renovating the old office space at the back of the Seek Accounting building in the main street. Following a few coats of fresh paint, the installation of some new cabinetry and carpet, and with the ever-reliable support from Wombat Regional Arts Network Inc., Mike has opened his building to the local community as a newly branded ‘Art Space’.
The inaugural exhibition, ‘The Body’ officially opened on Sunday 7 August, thanks to the creative guidance of Mt Egerton artist and life drawing teacher Ben Creaney. Students of Mr Creaney’s life drawing class have almost 70 of their combined works on display in the refurbished rooms.
Mike Bradley, an artist himself says, “I’ve always had a vision to create an arts space for local artists and over time, I hope this might also evolve into a creative space for craft and art workshops.”
The Body Exhibition is on until Sunday 28 August with the Art Space currently open from Thursday to Sunday, 10am – 3pm.
If you’re interested in art (or the body) then set aside some time to call in and visit the new Ballan Art Space, down the driveway at 117b Inglis Street Ballan.
For more information about the current exhibition, please call Ben on 0478 292 077. Or to get involved in the development of the Arts Space, come along to the next meeting on 1st Sept at 7pm. All welcome.
