A new exhibition will be held at Lerderderg Library next month, with a local, lifelong artist eager to have her work on display for the community to enjoy.

Joan Addison’s ‘Tawny Creations’ exhibition will begin on 2 May, with the hand decorated cards on display at Lerderderg Library’s Arena space until 31 May.

The name ‘Tawny Creations’ was inspired by a visiting tawny frogmouth, which spent two days and nights sitting on the stair railing outside Ms Addison’s front door.

Ms Addison said she had been into arts and crafts for many years, and the idea to sell her own cards had sprung from cardmaking for her family.

“From learning knitting and crochet at my nana’s knee, learning dressmaking from my aunt so as to clothe myself as an impoverished uni student, not to mention quilting, patchwork, embroidery, sewing dolls clothes and clothes for my children, craft of some kind has been part of my life for a very long time,” she said.

“I now create hand decorated cards, which started just with cards and stickers for my grandchildren. The gift of a die cut and embossing machine from my family, led me to classes where I learnt to work with distress, oxide, and pigment inks, mostly watercolour paints, water colour pencils, pan pastels, hot and dry embossing, die cutting, and many more exciting things.”

All cards at the exhibition are for sale, and details on how to buy them will be available at the exhibition. She also holds 2-hour card creation classes on the third Wednesday and Thursday of the month for $15.

With the money from card sales, Ms Addison hopes to build an office and support a ladies’ sewing project run by a charity in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Ms Addison’s exhibition is being held as part of the 2022 Moorabool Libraries Art Spaces Program.
