THE Greater Ballarat Alliance of Councils, or GBAC, have met with Minister for Local Government Nick Staikos to advocate for collaboration between the two levels of government.
GBAC members shared their priorities for the region and key discussion items included financial sustainability, drought support, disaster recovery, waste and recycling standards, and the Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund levy.
Alliance chair, City of Ballarat mayor Tracey Hargreaves, said the meeting highlighted the importance of partnerships.
“We welcome the opportunity to meet with Minister Staikos to share our region’s priorities and explore how we can work together to support thriving, resilient communities,” she said.
“Councils across our region are managing increasing demands with limited resources.
“Financial sustainability is a key concern and underpins our ability to deliver essential infrastructure and services that our communities depend on.
“We’re committed to working collaboratively with the Victorian Government to ensure local government is well placed to support sustainable growth, economic development and liveability across our region.”
The meeting was held last month and included representatives from City of Ballarat, Moorabool Shire Council, Golden Plains Shire Council, Central Goldfields Shire Council, Pyrenees Shire Council and Hepburn Shire Council.
