Avoid the bite
Better Health Channel
It’s mozzie breeding season and flooding and heavy rainfall have increased the risk of mosquitoes spreading disease.
Mosquitoes can transmit a range of viruses including Ross River fever, Barmah Forest fever, Murray Valley encephalitis and Japanese encephalitis virus.
The risk of Japanese encephalitis is low but, if you live or work in flood affected areas, you may be eligible for a vaccine.
Avoid mosquito bites
Wear long, loose fitting clothes and use mosquito repellents that contain picaridin or DEET when outside.
