Bald Hill – ready, set….
Get your runners out of the cupboard and have a stretch, because the 1000+ Steps at Bald Hill are almost ready to go – and it’s a long way up.
Stage 1 of the Bald Hill Activation Project, which includes the 1000+ Steps and a lookout, began construction in September 2021, and is due to be completed within the next two months, or earlier.
The steps will link the residential area near Halletts Way with the peak of Bald Hill, with the steps beginning at Ramsay Crescent and ending near Manning Boulevard.
A Council spokesperson told the Moorabool News that Council would be “working with our funding partners for an opening of the facility closer to the date”, but did not specify a particular date, with “March/April” the expected completion time.
On 8 December last year, Victorian Minister for Regional Development Mary-Anne Thomas visited Bacchus Marsh to announce a further $1.6 million in State Government funding for the project, bringing the total investment to $2.1 million.
“This is a really great example of one of those projects where State Government and Council work very closely together to deliver for the people of the Moorabool Shire, but even beyond,” Ms Thomas said.
“What we’re seeing after COVID is that more than ever before, Melburnians want to get out, and we’ve got to create a destination and an experience. What we have here with the 1000+ Steps is exactly that.”
She said the project would also generate 18 jobs during construction.
Stage 2 of the project, an All-Abilities Sculpture Trail, is scheduled to begin construction in mid-2022.
