Ban on use of horse drawn carriages
RSPCA Victoria welcomes the Victorian Government’s ban on the use of horse-drawn vehicles in Melbourne’s CBD from next month.
This is a huge win for horse welfare as we have long advocated for a ban on the use of carriage horses in the busy CBD where their welfare and safety are severely compromised.
RSPCA Inspectors have attended 48 cruelty reports relating to these horses over the past five years alone, which indicates the community is also concerned for their welfare. Thank you for standing with us in our efforts to finally ban horse-drawn vehicles – it’s a fantastic a step forward.
RSPCA Victoria will continue our advocacy work to ensure the welfare of carriage horses is considered and strengthened in other areas of Melbourne.
