Be prepared to avoid a rescue

The SES have repeated calls for hikers to be prepared and make sure they’re aware of the terrain they’re hiking in, after making their fifth rescue in the Lerderderg Gorge this year.
Volunteers from the Bacchus Marsh SES Unit were called out to the Lerderderg Gorge at around 6 pm on Sunday 19 June, to locate two missing hikers.
Unit Controller Bill Robson said it was important for hikers to be aware of hiking conditions, particularly in winter when it gets dark earlier.
